North Country Trail

The Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association is the 2nd newest NCTA chapter in Minnesota and is responsible for developing and maintaining the North Country National Scenic Trail in Clearwater and Becker Counties in northwest Minnesota. The chapter name is derived from the fact that the NCT follows the Laurentian Divide  and passes near several large lakes along it in our area.

Our trail section runs from the intersection of the Nicollet and Eagle Scout Trails in the middle of Itasca State Park through Clearwater County to the Becker – Ottertail County border south of the City of Frazee.

One of the access points is just east of Chimney Road off Co Hwy 39.    Our lake association has assumed the responsiblity for maintaintaining a 2 mile section of that trail that extends from Co Rd 39 to Anchor Matson Road.  Our volunteers maintain it in the fall and the spring, by mowing it and keeping it clean.
